About The School

Who We Are

The School of the Greek Orthodox Community of Milton Keynes & Surrounding Districts was established to preserve and promote the Greek language, culture, and traditions among the Greek community and the wider local area.

From its very beginning, the School has aimed to serve learners of all ages, supporting both educational development and a strong sense of cultural identity.

Our History

The Greek Orthodox Community of Milton Keynes was founded on 7 December 1989, with the purpose of supporting the religious, cultural, educational, and social needs of Greeks living in the area.

Within just a few months of the Community’s creation, the Greek School was established to help maintain and pass on the Greek language to younger generations. It was later formally established under its official title: The School of the Greek Orthodox Community of Milton Keynes & Surrounding Districts.

For many years, the School led a “peripatetic” life, operating from various locations while continuing to serve the community. Finding a permanent home that could support the full range of community needs remained a key priority.

In 2009–2010, after a long and challenging search, the Greek Orthodox Community of Milton Keynes succeeded in purchasing two buildings in the Conservation Area of Stony Stratford.

Even before any refurbishment took place, the School moved into its new premises, finally gaining a permanent home where learning and community life could flourish under one roof.

The School Today

Today, the School continues to serve children and adults from the local area and beyond.

The School meets every Thursday during term time, offering Greek language classes for both children and adult learners.

Lessons are structured to support different ages and levels, from early learners to students preparing for GCSE examinations.

In addition to language learning, the School places strong emphasis on Greek culture and traditions.

Through the support and collaboration of Delta Dancers, pupils also have the opportunity to take part in Greek traditional dancing lessons, allowing them to experience Greek culture in a practical and engaging way.

Achievement & Vision

The School has a strong record of achievement in GCSE examinations. Many former pupils have gone on to benefit academically and professionally from their knowledge of Greek, including graduates of prestigious universities and colleges.

Although small in size, the School of the Greek Orthodox Community of Milton Keynes & Surrounding Districts remains a hub of learning, culture, and community life — proud of its past achievements and committed to its future.
